Promoter, Frank Warren confirmed last month that Carl Frampton will fight in Belfast on Saturday 18th August this year.
It was announced yesterday at a press conference at Windsor Park that 33-year-old Australian boxer, Luke Jackson will face Frampton in the Summer bout. He currently holds the WBA Oceania, WBO Oriental and Australian Featherweight titles. Jackson was eighteen when he started boxing but showed a raw talent coming third at the Australian titles in his first year and winning the Title in his second year. He first represented Australia at the World Championships in 2005, he has since competed in the Common Wealth games, Afrura Games, Oceania Championships and the 2012 Olympics. Jackson has an unbeaten record of fifteen wins since he turned professional five years ago.
Frampton had hoped to challenge Oscar Valdez for a world title but due to injury that is not going to happen anytime soon also he had hoped to challenge the winner of the IBF title fight between Josh Warrington and Lee Selby however Warrington hasn’t committed to a bout yet. Frampton’s ultimate dream is to get into the ring with Leo Santa Cruz in Belfast. Last weekend, Cruz retained his WBA Title after beating Abner Mares in nine out the of the 12 rounds. Frampton has fought Cruz twice winning one of the two fights on points but it would be dream to take the title from Cruz on home turf. Regardless of his dream fight, Frampton is training hard to make sure Jackson gets his first professional loss!
