The US Open gets underway today at Pebble Beach and Rory McIlroy is in a great form of late.
He won last week’s Canadian Open and is hoping to end his Majors drought this week. His stunning victory was closed with rounds of 64 and 61 to win by seven shots – the Canadian Open’s biggest winning margin in 67 years.
But the 30 year old acknowledges he will need to reproduce the fast starts which have led to all four of his previous major titles if he is to secure his 5th major title since he won PGA Championship five years ago. But even when not on from, the Holywood man has the ability to turn it on at any given moment. Pebble beach is really windy course so if Rory can drive with accuracy rather than length, he will definitely be in with a great shot. Rory McIlroy is priced at 9/1 *. Bet on Rory McIlroy HERE
Portrush golfer Graeme McDowell takes to the course today with one goal in mind, to repeat his 2009 victory where he beat French man Gregory Havret by 1 shot. After emerging from a career slump that had him considering retirement, McDowell feels he can again be competitive on California’s Central Coast. He won earlier this year at the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship which earned him his Tour card for another two years. It was his first win in four years and last week he finished eighth at RBC Canadian Open and currently ranks 45th in the FedExCu rankings. He also qualified for the Open Championship in his hometown of Portrush next month. So with that weight lifted McDowell can relax into the course which is perfect for his golfing style. The small greens mean that everyone will be scrambling, and that’s what McDowell does best. He’s fifth in Strokes Gained: Putting. His 110 putts in 2010 were the third-fewest in the U.S. Open field. Graeme McDowell is priced at 100/1*. Bet on Graeme McDowell HERE
32 year old, Shane Lowry is the third Irish golfer hoping to make his presence felt Pebble Beach this week. After finishing second to Rory McIlroy last week at the RBC Canadian Open, he is having a great season which saw him bag 32nd spot in the latest world rankings. He won his first tournament this year back in January in Abu Dhabi. To date he only has one PGA Tour victory under his belt, but it was a big one with victory at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone back in 2015. Lowry’s form has been very consistant so if he keep his head in check he has every chance of doing really well at Pebble Beach. He is priced at 100/1*. Bet on Shane Lowry HERE
