Blackburn and Northern Ireland defender Corry Evans suffered a fractured skull and shattered eye socket after he was caught by a high boot in the Championship draw against Preston last Saturday.

The game had to be stopped for several minutes after the 29-year-old collided with Preston captain Tom Clarke for medical treatment before Evans was stretchered off the pitch with an oxygen mask on.

It was first thought that Corry Evans had sustained a broken nose and cheekbone, but following a range of scans and x-rays since, his injuries were shown to be more severe and he will require surgery and he will be sidelined for the foreseeable from both club and International football.

Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray told BBC Radio Lancashire, “As a club we will support him through this next period,”

“He’ll be having his operation soon. I don’t think its right to put a timescale on it. He’s going to have a plate in his forehead as his eye socket has been fractured and it’s something we need to assess through time.”

Mowbray added: “I’ve said to him ‘there’s no rush, no one is standing here saying we need you back in a couple of weeks.’ First and foremost we need to think of Corry and his family.

“Our medical department have been there every day with his family and he seemed in good spirits when I spoke to him”

Corry Evans injury will come as a blow to Michael O’Neill’s international squad who face Bosnia Herzegovina in the Euro 2020 playoff semi-final on March 26th and if they manage to win the game, they will play the winners of Slovakia and the Republic of Ireland in the final just five days later. Although no timescale has put on Evan’s recovery, it’s fair to say at this stage Evans may miss his chance to help his home country qualify for the Euros.

The whole team at BetMcLean wish Corry Evans a very speedy recovery!
