Yesterday afternoon at Windsor Park, Michael O’Neill named his squad for the upcoming Nations League away games this month.
Oxford United midfielder, Gavin Whyte will earn his second cap against Austria in Vienna on Friday 12th October after his fantastic debut in Northern Ireland’s 3-0 win over Israel last month. Paddy McNair, the Middlesbrough defender has earned his place in the squad again after his impressive display in the Israel friendly. Norwich City’s Jamal Lewis will make his fourth appearance for Michael O’Neill while 21-year-old Bailey Peacock-Farrell, a relatively new addition to the goalkeeping panel learned a serious lesson in the 2-1 defeat at home to Bosnia & Herzegovina may feature again. Northern Ireland are due to play Bosnia & Herzegovina on Monday 15th October in Sarajevo and should be better equipped this time round.
Gareth McAuley has been left out of the squad after signing for Rangers last month due to no game time. He hasn’t played a game since June and it seems O’Neill would like him to concentrate on Rangers for the time being. Conor Washington is also absent from the squad due to personal reasons.
