The leading lady in amateur riding, Nina Carberry is anxiously recovering from a fall in Clonmel on the 4th February and is hoping to make a full recovery for Cheltenham.
She was competing on Strangford Lough when she became unseated, fell and tore a ligament in her back. Nina had been expected to make a quick recovery so it’s proving to be a slower process than initially thought. She missed out on riding On The Fringe, her winning partner in the Foxhunters’ Chase at Aintree in 2015 , at Leopardstown last week and is hopeful she will recover in time for Cheltenham, which kicks off in little over a month. On the Fringe is a red hot favourite to run home with the Foxhunters Chase again this year.
Nina won her first Cheltenham outing in the Fred Winter Juvenile hurdle in 2005. In 2007 she won the Cross Country Handicap Chase at Cheltenham Festival and completed a hatrick by 2009. She went on to win the Irish Grand National in 2011, on Organisedconfusion who was trained by her uncle Arthur Moore. Nina is the second female jockey ever to win the race. Her Grand National story is record breaking- she has entered the race five times, finished four times and her best placing was 7th which came in 2010. She will be hoping for a speedy recovery in the next few weeks to further smash her record breaking performance.
